Bowen: Ceasefire demands will grow without proof of Hamas HQ at Al-Shifa
The BBC recently reported on the current situation in the Middle East. The region is facing a number of political and security issues, including a major power struggle that has seen Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iran, Israel and other countries vying for influence in the region.
In Syria, there has been a seven-year civil war, resulting in half a million deaths and millions being displaced. In Yemen, a civil war began in 2014 as Houthi rebels took control of much of the country. This conflict has now moved into its sixth year, with no end in sight.
Iraq is also facing a major security challenge, with both domestic and international terrorism on the rise. A major military offensive was launched against Islamic State forces earlier this year, but the group still maintains a presence in parts of the country.
In Libya, a civil war has been ongoing since 2011, as rival armed groups battle for control of the country. Meanwhile, the United Nations-backed government is struggling to assert its authority.
There are also tensions between Israel and Palestine, as well as between Israel and many of its Arab neighbours. These tensions have been highlighted by recent normalisation deals between Israel and some Arab countries.
Finally, tensions between Iran and the US have been escalating in recent years, following the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and the reimposition of sanctions.
Overall, the Middle East is a region in turmoil, with numerous conflicts and tensions which show no signs of abating. As such, it remains an area of international concern.
